Workers' CompensationWorkers' comp is for your W-2 employees — drivers, dock workers and office staff on your payroll. It can help pay medical bills and lost wages when an employee is hurt on the job, and most states require it once you have employees. Benefits and requirements vary by state and policy.
Occupational AccidentOccupational accident is built for 1099 independent contractors, like leased-on owner-operators, who typically aren't covered by workers' comp. It can help with medical expenses and disability benefits after an on-the-job injury. Benefits and limits are set by the policy and subject to underwriting.

Common Questions

Trucking insurance, answered

How much does commercial truck insurance cost?

Commercial truck insurance commonly runs between roughly $9,000 and $18,000 per power unit per year. Your actual premium depends on coverage limits, driving and safety records, equipment value, operating radius, cargo type, and years in business. Marquee shops 30+ A-rated carriers to find your most competitive rate — see our cost guide for a full breakdown.

What types of insurance does a trucking company need?

Every motor carrier needs commercial auto liability to meet federal filing requirements. Most operations also carry physical damage for the tractor and trailer and motor truck cargo for the freight they haul. Depending on your setup, you may add workers' compensation or occupational accident, plus coverages like non-trucking liability and trailer interchange. See all coverages.

Do I need a USDOT number to get a quote?

No — you can start a quote without one. But having your USDOT or MC number lets us pull your safety and operating history and return a faster, more accurate quote. If you're a new venture, we can quote new-authority operations too.

How fast can I get a trucking insurance quote?

Most quotes come back the same business day. Because we work with 30+ carriers, we compare multiple markets at once instead of sending you to a single insurer. Binding coverage then depends on underwriting and the documents your carrier requires.

Does Marquee Insurance Group write in my state?

Marquee provides coverage nationwide across the large majority of U.S. states. A handful of states fall outside our current footprint, so the fastest way to confirm is to start a quote or call a specialist — we'll tell you right away whether we can write your operation.

What is the Highway Certified Insurance Agency network?

Highway is a carrier-identity and fraud-prevention platform for freight. Marquee is a founding member of its Certified Insurance Agency network, which means we meet a higher standard for verifying carriers and protecting the people who move freight — leading to faster onboarding and fewer fraud headaches. Learn more.

How do I file a claim or request a certificate of insurance?

All claims should be reported immediately and directly to your insurance carrier. Review your binding and policy documents for your carrier's claims contact, or visit our Claims page for claim reporting contacts for many of the carriers we work with. Please note: reporting a claim to MIG does not file the claim with your carrier. For certificates of insurance (COIs), payments, and policy changes, visit our Client Services page. Our team is happy to help Mon–Fri, 8 AM–5 PM ET.
